Curaçao forms part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands with full internal autonomy. Curaçao is an associate member of the European Community. The system of Government is a parliamentary democracy, based on the Dutch model. Education and social security systems are also based on those of the Netherlands and standard of living is rather high compared to the region. Dutch, English and Spanish are widely spoken.

Curaçao is often considered to be the birthplace of the international fiduciary services industry and its broad range of products reflect that position.
